As a whole, our country does not have a Christian attitude towards women. The media and celebrities today definitely make women look bad. Music artists talk about women like they are an item, and treat them with disrespect. Even though there are a few groups of people who don't treat women like this, most people in this day and age really do.
I think there is no way that a group of people can have absolutely no beliefs. Everyone has a belief whether it is religious, spiritual, or neither of these. No matter what, you are always going to have a belief in something. For example, some people believe in heaven and hell, and others beileve there is no heaven or hell.
Division and persectution aid the growth of a religion because it draws the attention of others. People will pay attention when something jurastic is going on, and it will make people listen to the religion's views. Sometimes it takes something big to make people pay attention, so if there's something big going on, like Perpetua wanting to die, it will draw the attention of others.
I think that anyone has the right to express themselves in any situation. If there is something that you do not agree with in what ever religion a person may be practicing, that individual should be able to express that. With that being said, I think there are also certain ways you should go about it. For example, if you do not believe that drinking is a sin, obviously you should drink on your own time and not show up to church drunk.
I think that in some cases, it may have cause some peoples faith to change. People who are very devout Jews believe only what the practice, and think that changes made to the religion because it conforms to modern day customs is wrong. In other cases, people may find their faith to be stronger because they did not agree with certain things, and now that it's changed, they agree with the religion more.
There are no subjects that should be off limits to satire. Satire is something that pokes fun at serious issues, and people will get offended. It's not fair to put a limit to someone else's beliefs just because one group of people gets offended. There will be people who get offended by what someone else of a different belief says, no matter the situation. Especially when watching a comedy or something that deals with satire, you have to know that there are things being said that will be offensive to at least one group of people. People need to realize that they are not the only group of people being attacked, it's everyone. To get that upset/offended by certain remarks is completely over dramatic.
People should be able to believe what they want. What others believe is not my concern or the concern of others. If I give that respect, I should be able to get the same respect back. People should be able to recognize that it is not important to push your beliefs on others, because you cannot control anyone else's life or decisions.
To consider a secular place religious is not okay. The place (for example, the pub we read about in class on 10/19) should be somewhere open to all people. Secular places were not intended to be religious places, and if they were then we would call it that. Not every establishment has to be a religious place, because people who do not practice should be able to go to a secular place as well without having to feel as though people are forcing their beliefs upon them. With that being said, if a group of people with religious beliefs want to meet in a secular place and discuss their beliefs among themselves, then they should be allowed to, as long as they are not disturbing others who may not want to listen.
